Whether you are a complete beginner or an inexperienced writer keen to develop your skills,
learn how to release your creativity and bring out your latent talent on this friendly, supportive
course led by an award-winning published author.
Course Content
You will be supported as you produce original pieces of creative writing and receive professional
feedback. You will be introduced to a range of writing tools, while a weekly assignment will allow
you to put what you have learnt into practice and to get into the habit of writing regularly. You
will also take part in group discussions.
By the end of the course you will:
Have built up a portfolio of material
Know how to engage your reader
Know how to structure a story, develop a character, describe scenery and write dialogue
Know where to look for ideas
Understand how to tackle the research
Understand the different ways to get published
Entry Requirements
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.
Not tutor approved. Suitable for complete beginners and inexperienced writers. Requirements are
competence in spoken and written English.
First Class Requirements
Something to write with, whether pencil and paper, laptop, electronic notebook or even phone.
Learners will be asked to complete a very short, simple writing exercise in the first class, not to be
formally assessed but as a basis for discussion.
Attendance Requirements
Each session deals with a key aspect of writing - describing a character, writing a plot, writing
dialogue, describing a scene for example - so it?s important not to miss one of these essential
topics. Also, completing the assignment each week is a key component of the course.
Assessment Methods
Learners will be asked to state their goals at the start of the course and encouraged throughout the
course to feedback to the tutor if they feel they are not progressing as they had hoped.
