This course will give you the chance to explore ceramics and its potential for creative output, and in doing so improving your wellbeing. You will learn techniques to make simple items and learn about decoration and glazing.

Course Content

This course is aimed at beginners.

This course will give you the chance to explore the ceramic workshop and its potential for creative output. You will learn a hand building technique such as slab building or coiling and have the chance to learn decorative techniques such as slip decoration and glazing.

You will have the chance to produce a piece of work or several test pieces at a pace that suits you.

In keeping with professional working practice, the last 15 minutes of each session will be used to clean up your work space.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

This course is suitable for beginners and those with a bit more experience who would like to reduce stress through the following of simple techniques.

First Class Requirements

Note book, pencil. All learners are required to bring a plastic wipeable apron, please wear closed toe shoes and dress appropriately.

Attendance Requirements

Regular attendance will help you gain maximum benefit from the course.

Assessment Methods

There is no formal assessment for this course, but your progress will be monitored via question and answer in groups and individually and by observation. You will be given regular verbal feedback as to how you could improve and your progress in general.

Further Study Options

Further leisure courses in Ceramics or wellbeing courses in other areas.

Additional Information

You will be required to pay for materials that you use from the college and for your firing. Details will be given out at the first class and prices will be dependent on materials used and size of work.

Learners will have the additional cost of clay that they wish to use on the course (the cost of firing and glazing of work is included in the cost of the clay).

Learners cannot bring their own clay to use on this course and must use the clay supplied by the college.

We are able to sell you a basic tool set and if required your tutor can recommend any alternatives.

All learners will receive a health and safety induction in alignment with their course. Learners are required to bring a plastic wipeable apron, please wear closed toe shoes and dress appropriately.
