This introductory course will give you a good overview of silkscreen printmaking. You will be working with paper and photographic stencils using acrylic water based printing inks.

Course Content

This course will give you a basic grounding in making silkscreen prints You will make a series of prints from simple paper stencils and then develop photographic stencils.

Course aims:

You will learn how to apply a UV sensitive emulsion stencil to a screen.
You will learn how to print a screen in several layers of ink to get a coloured image.
You will learn how to design a basic screen print for fabric or paper.
You will learn safe working in a print studio environment.

In keeping with professional working practice, the last 15 minutes of each session will be used to clean up your work space.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

Anyone with an interest in developing practical printmaking skills. No experience necessary.

Additional Information

Bring to first class: A number of images that you are interested in working from. A craft knife, scissors, and masking tape would be useful. Also a notebook / sketchbook for developing compositions and writing technical notes, and pencils. The college has a stock of resale paper. (Inks are included in the course fee)

This specialist course has been identified to run with fewer numbers due to either the student demand for the course and subject area or the need for increased one to one tuition. This course will be able to run with only 6 learners and will have a maximum of 10 in the class.

All learners will receive a health and safety induction in alignment with their course. Learners are advised to wear closed toe shoes and to dress appropriately.
