Ceramics Throwing Absolute - Beginners

This course is designed for learners who are complete beginners or who have very limited experience of using the potter’s wheel. Starting with fundamental techniques and progressing skills throughout the term, there will be an emphasis on making tableware using stoneware clay.

Course Content

Course aims:

• You will learn how to wedge and reclaim clay
• You will learn how to centre and throw clay using the wheel
• You will lean how to turn footings on bases
• You will make and attach handles to your pieces
• You will experiment with adding surface pattern using slips or creating texture on surface
• You will glaze and finish your work

The learning methods include demonstrations by the tutor, handouts, videos and one to one support.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

None required although some experience of using clay would be an advantage

First Class Requirements

Apron, sketchbook, any tools

You will be required to pay for your clay by weight. The price includes glazes and firing. There are additional charges for special firings.
