ESOL Level 2 Award - Writing

This 3-month course will provide you with the opportunity to develop your writing skills in the following areas:

Build confidence in writing skills
Improve your planning skills before writing texts
Write different types of writing texts in an informal and formal context
Develop your knowledge of punctuation
Improve grammar and vocabulary

You will learn in an adult-only environment from expert teachers with English language teaching experience.

Improving your English skills and getting an ESOL certification is a good addition to your curriculum vitae and a great way of demonstrating your language skills to prospective employers.

Course Content

You will work on improving your English language skills for everyday use in life and work. You will focus on improving your writing skills in the following areas:

Plan, draft and write different types of formal and informal texts such as letters, emails and short reports

Write texts using a range of different formats and structures and in a variety of styles suitable for different purposes, such as to persuade, to inform, to describe and to give instructions

Sequence and organise your information and ideas logically, using paragraphs, with an appropriate level of detail

Use a range of suitable language and vocabulary for your purpose

Write using a wide range of grammar accurately, including verbs, verb tenses and subject verb agreement, adverbs, adjectives, nouns and pronouns, conjunctions, articles and prepositions in correctly written complex sentences

Write using a range of punctuation accurately

Fill in complex forms for personal and professional purposes

Further develop your understanding of English grammar

Further develop your understanding of English spelling

You will also learn to develop your study skills and improve your English to the standard required to pass the Level 2 writing exam. We will focus on developing your writing skills so by the end of the course you are able to write a variety of everyday texts accurately and fluently.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

We have courses at all levels of the Adult ESOL Curriculum from Pre-Entry (for complete beginners) and Entry Level up to Level 2. We will help you find the correct level for you before you start your course.

Before you start this course, you need to take an English language assessment to help us put you in the right level of writing course.

First Class Requirements

Please bring a folder to keep your work in, a black or blue pen, and a lined notepad of paper.

Attendance Requirements

To be successful on this course, you will need to attend regularly and demonstrate commitment to your success.

Assessment Methods

If the teacher believes you are ready to take the exam, you will take a L2 writing assessment at the end of the course, which will be accredited by an external awarding organisation.

Further Study Options

After this course, you can continue to study on our ESOL Speaking & Listening or Reading courses.

You can progress through the ESOL levels up to Level 2.

When you have finished your ESOL course you may want to progress into the wider programme offer at RHACC including Cambridge Certificate courses, GCSE English courses and our range of vocational and leisure courses.

We will also provide support with applying to university and careers guidance to help you decide on your options following the completion of the programme.
