This course will enable you to gain a qualification to apply for university entrance in business related areas of study.

This Business Studies course will give you a broad knowledge of Business across a range of areas including Marketing, Finance, Economis and Management.

As a special offer for Access learners, you have the option of choosing a free leisure course starting in September/January, of a duration of one term or less.

Course Content

The course consist of a series of business modules, to cover different areas:

- Marketing - market research, market segmentation and promotion strategies;
- Economics and Finance - i core concepts of financial management, such as elasticity of demand, opportunity cost, and sources of finance;
- Management - core leadership and management theories; motivation; business decision making;
- Practical applications of business planning and digital marketing.

In addition, several study skills units which will provide you with the tools and techniques to make the most of your studies and prepare to thrive in an academic environment: you will learn how to write reports, essays and present confidently before an audience.

Entry Requirements

For your application to be considered you must be 18 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date

You should have a grade C or above at GCSE English and Maths gained within the last five years. If you do not have this you may be asked to undertake a screening test in Maths and English.

Learners must be aged 19 and over on the 31st August 2018; however, we may consider applications from applicants aged 18, according to individual circumstances.

As a part of the enrolment process, you will be interviewed to assess whether the course is appropriate for you.

Attendance Requirements

In line with the college's policies, it is expected 100% attendance.

Assessment Methods

Your progress will be regularly assessed through a mix of written and verbal activities; a final assessments will certify the achievement of the learning objectives and successful completion of the units.

Further Study Options

Completing this course allows you to apply for university degree courses.

Additional Information

Some of our courses are now delivered through remote learning, including video conferencing (using Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Skype) and email contact with your tutor.

If your course is indicated as an ONLINE COURSE, you will need either a PC (with a camera and microphone), laptop, tablet, smartphone and access to the internet to be able to join the lessons. Lessons will run at the published time – so be ready and set up to join in.

One big advantage of this course is that you can complete it in a much shorter time to A-levels; however, this will require a considerable amount of independent study, outside of the lesson times; you will be advised by your tutors on what is expected.
