This course covers:
Counselling Studies: Prepare to work within an ethical framework for counselling, understand the counselling relationship, understand difference and diversity issues to develop empathic understanding, work within a user-centred approach to counselling, use counselling theory to develop self-awareness in counselling practice, understand theories of counselling and mental health, use feedback, reflection and supervision to support counselling studies.
Application of counselling skills in a range of occupational settings: Understand ethical, legal and professional frameworks for the use of counselling skills in a range of occupational settings, understand the nature of relationships in a range of occupational settings, know the importance of using empathy and understanding diversity in a range of occupational settings, understand the nature of working alliances in a range of occupational settings, understand the importance of self-awareness in the application of counselling skills in different occupations, understand frameworks for the use of counselling skills in non-counselling settings, understand the role of feedback and reflection in applied counselling skills.

You must have a Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills or equivalent (gained in the last three years).
You must have English at GCSE Grade 4/ C or an equivalent qualification.
You will be interviewed and complete a piece of free writing.
You must present your tutor reference from Level 2 on headed paper.
You must produce your attendance record for Level 2.
You must be able to work with difference and diversity.
You must be capable of a particular level of academic standard, able to critically reflect on different counselling theories and research, and complete written assignments up to 2,000 words.
You must possess personal qualities of imagination, intuition, openness and an ability to benefit from self-development.
You must be self-aware, insightful, honest and able to make links.
You must have emotional stability and the absence of personality disturbance.
You must have the ability to challenge and be challenged.
You must have the ability to respond sensitively and empathetically to others.
You'll build a portfolio of evidence throughout the course, mainly through assignments. Your tutor will assess your work. We'll also assess your ability to work independently and in groups. You'll complete reflective learning statements to track your progress.
This qualification is eligible for Advanced Learner Loans (19+). You may also be able to access funding based on your age, employment status, or prior qualifications. This course is recognised by the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS). While this qualification is a great step, remember that it doesn't qualify you to practice as a counsellor on its own. You'll need further training to become a qualified counsellor.
