This qualification is suitable for learners who are thinking about working as a volunteer and will provide them with an insight into the role and an awareness of the personal standards required of them whilst volunteering. It is also suitable for those learners who are already in a volunteering role and will enhance both their knowledge and skills. In these circumstances the learners could use their volunteering role to assist them to gather the evidence required.
Course Content
The learner will:
UNIT 1:
1 Understand the commitment required and benefits of volunteering
2 Understand the function of different volunteering organisations and how they use volunteers
3 Understand how to improve and develop the skills needed to perform the role of a volunteer in a chosen organisation
4 Know where to find out about becoming a volunteer and the ways to apply for a volunteering post
UNIT 2:
1 Understand the importance of meeting personal and organisational standards in volunteering organisations
2 Understand the importance of equal opportunities
3 Understand the importance of safety requirements when volunteering
4 Be able to perform tasks required in the volunteering role
Entry Requirements
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

In order to enrol onto this course you will need to sit a computer based initial assessment to indicate and evidence your current level of Maths and English. You will also need to have strong study skills to be able to manage your time to study at home.
First Class Requirements
You are expected to have an A4 writing pad, a ring-binder or folders as well as pencils, a rubber, a 30cm ruler and a highlighter pen.
Assessment Methods
With the completion of the course portfolio the learner will achieve the Level 1 Award in Volunteering and will be able to progress to the Level 2 Award in Volunteering.

You will be expected to do at least 1 to 2 hours of homework per week.
