Why Study This Course?
This course is all about how to add surface decoration to your projects, using slips, underglazes and oxides. We will explore adding textures, mono-printing and paper resist techniques to decorate different layers.
It would be helpful that learners understand the basics of ceramics and therefore this workshop is directed at Improvers and Intermediate learners.
Learners are encouraged to bring along leather hard ceramic projects (these MUST have been made at RHACC), but it is not essential. Objects can be bowls, plates, mugs, vases and even leather hard slabs.
By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
-Know how to print on clay using mono printing and dust printing techniques
-Be able to confidently use texture, slips, ceramic stains and underglaze
-Make paper resist stencils to create multi-layers of images and colour
-To stretch and extend we will explore contemporary artists who are using decorative techniques in their practice
-You will learn through tutor demonstrations and individual practice of skills and techniques.
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.
This 1-day workshop is suitable for those who are already aware of the basics of ceramics and who want to explore techniques for surface decoration.
There is no formal assessment of work made In the workshop, but the tutor will guide skill development through informal in-class feedback.
