Chemistry is fundamental to life and the world around us. Chemical processes take place in biological organisms and shape our world. This course explores the basics of chemistry as an introduction.

Course Content

In this short course, you will explore the fundamentals and basic concepts of chemistry. You will study the Periodic Table to see how the shape of the table reflects the underlying atomic structure of the chemical elements. You will learn how atomic structure leads to formation of ionic and covalent bonds. You will learn about the different branches of chemistry and the impact that chemistry has on ourselves and the environment.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on the start date of the course.

This course is for anyone with an interest in Chemistry and wanting to find out more.

Assessment Methods

This course is non-certificated so there are no formal units or assessment. You will be expected to present and discuss your work in informal group and tutor discussions.

Additional Information

Some of our courses are now delivered through remote learning, including video conferencing (using Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Skype) and email contact with your tutor.

If your course is indicated as an ONLINE COURSE, you will need either a PC (with a camera and microphone), laptop, tablet, smartphone and access to the internet to be able to join the lessons. Lessons will run at the published time – so be ready and set up to join in.
