Counselling - CPCAB Level 3 Certificate

If you already have a recognised qualification in counselling skills then this is the next step in training to become a counsellor. On this course you will learn more about counselling theory, ethics and mental health.

Course Content

This qualification is made up of seven learning outcomes and associated assessment criteria. 1. Prepare to work within an ethical framework
2. Understand the Counselling relationship
3. Understand difference and diversity issues to develop empathic understanding
4. Work with a user-centred approach to counselling
5. Use counselling theory to develop self-awareness in counselling practice
6. Understand theories of counselling and mental health
7. Use feedback, reflection and supervision to support counselling studies.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

You must have a Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills (or equivalent) that is less than three years old. There is no automatic progression from level 2 onto level 3. An assessment of your fitness to practice and fitness to study will be considered. In addition, your attendance and punctuality on your level 2 course will be part of the assessment. If you have completed your level 2 with another provider, we will require to see your portfolio; a record of your attendance and a reference from your tutor. Your English must be at level 2 or above. We do not recommend this qualification for people under the age of 24.

First Class Requirements

you should bring a ring binder, notebook and black pen to the first class.
You must have access to IT equipment including a microphone and webcam as this course will involve submitting work electronically and building an electronic portfolio

Attendance Requirements

You are expected to attend all sessions and arrive on time.

Assessment Methods

During the course you will put together a portfolio of evidence. The majority of the evidence for your portfolio will be assignment based. Your assignment work will be assessed by your tutor. Some assessment is based on how you as a learner are able to work independently and within a group setting. In addition, you will complete reflective learning statements throughout the duration of the course.

Towards the end of the course you will undertake an exam. This is a written paper that you complete after watching a CPCAB DVD under exam conditions. This paper is assessed by CPCAB.

Your Fitness to Practice will be assess during the course and you will need to demonstrate the personal competencies required to be a counsellor. in some cases, learners may pass the written assignments and exam but not demonstrate the required level of personal competences to qualify.

Further Study Options

At the end of the course you will be interviewed by one of the course tutors to determine whether you are personally ready and able to progress to the two year Counselling Diploma that will qualifiy you to work as a counsellor. Both your personal development, your Fitness to Practice and your academic achievement will be taken into account in making this decision. There is no automatic progression to the next level. There is no guarantee that the next level will be scheduled at the same time as your current level.
