Creative Cushions and Home Furnishings

On our fun, practical course you'll learn the techniques of hand and machine sewing whilst making beautiful projects for your home.

The course will include opportunities to learn about measuring and construction techniques, adding zips, decorative sewing, appliqué, freeform embroidery and bias binding.

Course Content

During our course, you will gain hands-on experience of basic hand and machine sewing techniques and will explore design, construction, materials and working to and making your own basic pattern.

Techniques will include:
• Hand sewing stitches
• Machine sewing (range of stitching and techniques)
• Seams, Finishing and Hemming techniques
• Appliqué
• Making your own bias binding
• Covering buttons
• Adding zips

Group teaching and technique demonstration alongside one to one sessions will help you create your own projects to take home. Each session will be student-led with time to practice techniques and develop personal projects.

Entry Requirements

No experience of sewing necessary although you may get more done if you have basic sewing machine skills.

First Class Requirements

Please bring a notebook, pencil, and any essential sewing kit, measurement of a desired cushion , sections or scraps of fabric that you might want to use in your projects.

Basic sewing equipment will be provided. You will be require to buy additional haberdashery materials, a list will be provided in the first class.

Attendance Requirements

Regular attendance is necessary to progress your skills.

This specialist course has been identified to run with fewer numbers due to either the student demand for the course and subject area or the need for increased one to one tuition. This course will be able to run with only 6 learners and will have a maximum of 10 in the class.
