This course is designed to give practical and creative skills in building a website for a business or a personal portfolio using Adobe Photoshop and Wordpress.

Course Content

This course will develop your web design skills and covers the following:

Planning and mapping a website

Correcting and enhancing images for your site using Adobe Photoshop.

Resize and save images with the correct formats for use in a website

How hosting and domain names work

How to sign-up and publish a free website using Wordpress.com

Create, edit and delete pages in your site

Create effective Navigation systems to move between web pages

Create, edit and delete blog posts

Share your posts in social media

Add media and embeds to your site (photos, videos, maps)

Create contact forms

Customize the look of your site.

You will learn how to create and publish a functional website using Wordpress

You will learn how to prepare images to a high standard for online purposes.

You will learn to integrate rich media such as videos and interactive maps

You will learn to add contact forms that link with your email

You will learn how to incorporate a blog on your website and share blog posts on Social Media

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

You should be computer literate and have experience of using the Internet. Familiarity with file management is essential (you must be able to create a folder and navigate through files and folders) .

You may have some existing skills with Adobe Creative Cloud products such as Photoshop or Indesign.

First Class Requirements

Notepad, pen & folder for notes and handouts.
Memory stick.

Attendance Requirements

If it is unavoidable that you miss a class you must notify the tutor at the earliest time. The tutor will endeavour to help you make up for the lost time, but the responsibility for this is with the student.

Assessment Methods

Assessment is ongoing. You will complete classroom exercises which will inform you and the tutor of your progress. You will work towards a project of building a website for a business, portfolio or subject of your choice.
