Why Study This Course?
Digital Skills for Independence is a practical and supportive course designed to help learners develop the digital skills needed for everyday life, learning, and future employment. The course introduces learners to computers and a range of commonly used digital applications in a calm and accessible environment.
Learners will build confidence using technology for everyday tasks such as creating documents, sending emails, joining online meetings, and accessing information online. The course focuses on developing independence, communication, organisation, and workplace-ready digital skills through hands-on activities and guided support. This course is suitable for learners who ahave completed Getting started with computers, Everyday Digital Skills and/or have good basic skills with computers

-Learn how to safely access and use online information
-Improve communication through email and online platforms
-Gain basic skills in Microsoft Office 365 applications
-Develop skills in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
-Learn how to join and take part in online meetings using Teams
-Improve organisation, problem-solving, and digital communication skills
-Develop digital skills that support work, volunteering, and future learning
-Increase confidence using technology in everyday life and employment settings
-Accessing and navigating Office 365
-Creating and editing simple documents in Microsoft Word
-Creating simple presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint
-Using Microsoft Teams for messages, calls, and online meetings
-Setting up, accessing, sending, and replying to emails
-Searching for information safely online
-Understanding online safety and digital responsibility
-Using digital tools for organisation and communication
-Practising digital skills linked to work and employment
-Build confidence using computers and digital devices
-Develop independence in everyday digital tasks

Complete an Initial Assessment via MS Forms or in hard copy. Return to Supported Learning. Attend an interview with a member of Supported Learning Team
Assessment is via a portfolio of evidence demonstrating achievement of personalised learning goals.
