Why Study This Course?
The City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Jewellery Design and Silverware Manufacturing qualification provides a unique opportunity for learners to develop and perfect jewellery manufacturing and design skills while gaining a deep understanding of the wider industry.
It can lead directly into employment within the jewellery industry in a variety of roles including: jewellery designer, jobbing jeweller, goldsmith or silversmith. This City & Guilds diploma is part of the government free courses for jobs initiative with support available through an advanced learner loan. We are running this diploma as an intensive 2 day per week course from September until July. We have an experienced delivery team working both commercially and in industry training settings.
This diploma is ideal for those with experience of jewellery making looking to work in the industry, and apprentices and professional jewellery makers looking to progress in their careers.
The units on this course will cover:
•Maintain and prepare the workshop for work with precious metal objects.
•Produce precious metal objects from detailed drawings and specifications.
•Mark out and measure materials for the manufacture of precious metal objects.
•Use mechanical methods to join precious metal components.
•Produce tools and jigs for use in the manufacture of precious metal objects.
•Apply concepts of metallurgy to the production of precious metal objects.
•Form complex jewellery components.
•Join jewellery components by soldering.
•Saw and pierce jewellery components.
•Maintain knowledge of the jewellery industry, allied trades and related technologies.
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date. The initial assessment will consist of a telephone interview with the tutor, this will be followed by a practical assessment on site.
The assessment process is carried out using written feedback, 1-2-1 guidance and regular discussions with the tutor.
This includes tracking your own practice through written notes and tutors written responses, documenting your progress and personal development throughout the course.
