Drama Improvisation: Building Communication and Creativity
C03113

Would you like to communicate more comfortably with others and express your ideas in new ways?
Join our thriving drama department at RHACC in Richmond in this new improv group. This course will teach how to be more collaborative in everything you do, and develop your skills in becoming more open to other people?s ideas.

This is a great session to support students taking acting classes, but it is also a very useful for non-actors or those wishing to develop their creativity in other fields, as it is a great way to build general communication skills.

The ability to collaborate and brainstorm through play enhances your creativity and develops your ideas with more clarity.

Improv is essentially the cross-training class of the communication world, which is why it is seen as
a vital tool for performance practitioners of all levels and used more regularly by businesses to build connection and creativity with their employees.

Course Content

This class will help you to make friends, it teaches you to be more mindful, helps you to allow
space to play and not take yourself too seriously. The class helps create the space to build the skills to be a risk-taker, and makes you a better listener while also growing your ability to problem-solve and think on your feet.
Improv builds confidence and will help you to become more atuned to kindness in your response
to others.

Sessions will start with a gentle stretch to activate the body.

This will be followed by an acting game to engage and focus the mind.
The class will then move into the improvised actong phase of the session, where the teacher will
introduce scenarios for the group to respond to in a proactive manner, taking turns to add to the
story being told in the moment.
