This course is suitable for teachers, trainers and tutors working in Further Education, Adult and Community Learning or work-based training within public, private, voluntary or community organisations.

Course Content

The course will include the following units -

Developing Teaching, Learning and Assessment in Education and Training
Teaching, Learning and Assessment in Education and Training
Theories, Principles and Models in Education and Training
Wider Professional Practice and Development in Education and Training

Other units will also be delivered with further details given on enrolment.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on the start date of the course.

You must have English and Maths GCSEs at Grade C or numerical equivalent 4 or above or Level 2 Functional Skills in both subjects. You must also have a very good working knowledge of IT.

You should possess very good levels of reading and communication skills to meet the demands of the course.

You must not have a criminal background which prevents you from working as a teacher with young people or vulnerable adults.

You will need to hold a relevant qualification in your area of specialism which is at a level above that of your learners and at least at Level 3.

First Class Requirements

Pen, A4 Notepad and Ring Binder. You could also bring a suitable IT device for note-making and management of course material.

Attendance Requirements

You will be required to attend on site sessions (around 8 in one year with dates to be confirmed). You should aim for 100% for these sessions on this qualification course as this is important face to face contact time with the course tutors.

Assessment Methods

Written assessments for your portfolio (e-portfolio) as well as a minimum of 8 observations of teaching practice.

Further Study Options

Progression could include application for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills Status (QTLS) as well as the following diplomas -

Level 5 Diploma in Teaching English: ESOL
Level 5 Diploma in Teaching Disabled Learners
Level 5 Diploma in Teaching Maths: Numeracy and Functional Skills
Level 5 Diploma in Teaching English: Literacy, ESOL and Functional English

Additional Information

There is a teaching practice requirement of a minimum of 100 hours for this course as well as a requirement to evidence working with a group of learners.

You will also need to commit to a minimum of 840 hours of your own time on directed study in addition to attending on site sessions, completing assignments and uploading portfolio evidence.

Remote Learning:

If your course is indicated as an ONLINE COURSE, you will need either a PC (with a camera and microphone), laptop, tablet, smartphone and access to the internet to be able to join the lessons. Lessons will run at the published time – so be ready and set up to join in.
