Do you want to gain a English GCSE? This course will familiarise you with its content, level and expectations. You will need to complete and pass an initial assessment before starting this course. Most jobs typically require a GCSE in English Language. The knowledge and skills you gain from this qualification will equip you for various life challenges and career opportunities.
This course offers you an opportunity to achieve a nationally recognised qualification: GCSE English. You will improve your confidence in English Reading, Writing and Speaking skills with supportive tutors to guide you.
This course is designed for anyone who already has a good level of everyday English. You will study and be assessed on many of the topics/skills which you will need to pass an English GCSE qualification. Some of those topic areas are listed below.
Develop a thorough understanding of the English language, including grammar, sentence structure, and punctuation.
Learn how to effectively read and comprehend English language texts.
Develop writing skills for academic purposes, including essay writing and effective communication in written form.
Understand the requirements and structure of the Edexcel English exam.
Develop listening and speaking skills to effectively communicate in English.
Avoid common mistakes in English writing and improve overall writing quality.
You'll learn through a mix of classroom instruction and activities. You will also have access to online learning materials, allowing you to consolidate your learning outside the classroom.
You need to complete an English initial assessment to check your level before enrolling.
The entry requirement for the GCSE English course initial assessment is Level 2 English.
Being successful on this course will allow you to progress to further or higher education requiring a pass rate in GCSE English.
If you have already achieved GCSE English grade C/4 or higher, then English courses will not be free for you and you will need to pay a fee. Learners outside the Greater London Area may also need to pay a fee for any non-qualification courses. Please discuss this with college staff when you come to enrol..
You will need to purchase the textbook for the course along with some basic stationery. We will give you details of this at the interview, but it will be a modest cost. For any learners who will struggle to pay for equipment, there is a hardship fund available.
