This 3-month course will help you build confidence in reading, develop skimming and scanning skills, and understand different types of texts. You’ll learn from experienced teachers in a supportive, adult-only environment. Improving your English and gaining an ESOL certification is a great way to enhance your CV and demonstrate your language skills to employers.

This course covers:
Recognising how language and presentation features are used for different purposes.
Identifying the main points and events in texts that describe, explain, narrate, and persuade.
Skimming, scanning, and reading in detail to identify main points and key details.
Recognising bias and inferred meaning, and distinguishing between facts and opinions.
Using organisational features to find information in texts or reference materials.
Further developing your understanding of English grammar to help you read and understand texts.
Further developing your understanding of English spelling structures, rules and strategies.
Reading and understanding forms for personal and professional purposes.

You must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.
Before you start this course you need to take Step into English to help you choose the right level of Reading course.
We have courses at all levels of the Adult ESOL Curriculum from Pre-Entry (for complete beginners) and Entry Level up to Level 2.
We will help you find the correct level for you before you start your course.
If your teacher assesses you as ready, you will take an ESOL Level 1 reading assessment at the end of the course. This assessment will be accredited by an external awarding organisation.
