This fun and interactive Intermediate course helps you build on your existing skills to use French in practical, everyday situations at an Intermediate (B1) level. You’ll expand your vocabulary and learn more complex sentence structures and verb forms, including the conditional mood. Enhance your ability to communicate accurately in present, past, and future contexts. You will gain confidence in real-world scenarios like conversations at the doctor’s or making holiday plans. A native French speaker teaches the course.
This course concentrates on everyday communication through reading, speaking, listening, and writing. You will work in groups, pairs, or individually and use a variety of materials and resources, including interactive ones. As part of this course you will learn how to:
Describe past events using the recent past tense with *venir de*
Practise more past tenses contrasting Passe Compose and Imparfait
Buy clothes - revision of colours/sizes/fabrics
Book hotels - ask about facilities
Apply the conditional mode in the right context and situations - say what you would or could do / make polite requests
Deal with medical problems - enquire at the pharmacy / make doctor appointments

You have completed Intermediate Stage 1 or equivalent (around 3-4 years of study)
You feel comfortable with past and future tenses.
You'll discuss your goals with your tutor, who will assess your progress through in-class observation and activities. You'll also track your progress in your Personal Learning Plan (PLP). After completing this course, you can move on to Post Intermediate.
In your first lesson, your tutor will tell you which textbook you'll need. Please bring a pen and paper, or your preferred electronic device. Regular attendance will help you develop your language skills and make the most progress.
