How to be your own Interior Designer - Intensive Short Course

This course serves as an introduction to interior styling and is suitable for beginners wishing to learn the essential steps to transform their own home.

Course Content

We will examine the key design processes involved in styling a living space by looking at contemporary interiors, and styles from around the world.

Using basic principles of interior design, we will learn how to develop a unique scheme for a home through group discussions, and practical exercises, including colour theory, lighting, window treatments, finishes, measuring, preparing draft drawings/furniture layouts and planning a project.

We will explore techniques on how to create that “designer look” including how to display collections, accessories, hang pictures, layering soft furnishings, prepare table settings and present a scheme.

Course outcomes:
•Research and develop own ideas/projects, and effectively translate these into a workable and unique scheme
•Understand the basic rules of colour, layering soft furnishings, lighting, materials and finishes.
•Be able to measure, prepare draft drawings and plan your own projects
•Visualise and present a scheme by creating concept and sample boards

Entry Requirements

This course is suitable for anyone who has a passion for interior design and are drawn to interior magazines or Pinterest, but aren’t sure how to create that designer look. This course will also appeal to anyone with an interest in home renovation.

First Class Requirements

Notebook, pen, dimensions of a room, (in your own home), and a scale ruler.
