Intensive Drawing School - All Levels
C01742

Need to build a portfolio? Want to learn the basics of drawing quickly? This course is for you. Spend a week exploring a range of drawing processes, tailored to your level of experience in a focused but fun way, from basic measuring techniques to aspects of composition and beyond. Beginners will be guided through a series of key skills while more advanced drawers can build on existing techniques, explore more advanced concepts, and push the boundaries of drawing.

Course Content

Beginners will be lead through a series of the key skills of drawing in a structured, step-by-step way, beginning with basic observation and measuring techniques and extending to line, tone, mark-making, aspects of colour and of composition.

More experienced students will build on existing techniques and explore more advanced concepts, pushing the boundaries of drawing. This will be student-focused and topics covered will depend on the skills and interests of the group. The course will largely be studio-based but, depending on the weather, there may be opportunities to work outdoors.

Teaching will include illustrated presentations, tutor demonstrations; practical painting/drawing and individual tuition and guidance. All techniques and concepts will be introduced through tutor demonstrations and placed in context using art historical references, and you will benefit from supportive, tailored, feedback throughout.

Learning outcomes:
• You will learn to question and if necessary to correct your customary perception when drawing anything 3-dimensional.
• You will learn to draw from a 3-dimensional object taking line and shape, proportions, object and surround as well as composition and tonality into consideration.
• You will learn and exercise the use of different drawing media like pencils, charcoal (willow and compressed), pastels, ink and will practice drawing with brushes to make distinctive brush marks.
• You will learn how to use colour effectively within your drawing
