Italian - Beginners Stage 1

If you are a complete beginner, this course is for you! Stage 1 of the Beginners course focuses on introductions. You will learn to introduce yourself to others and give simple information about yourself. Our goal is also to boost your interest and knowledge of the culture, and you will discover Italian food, drink and traditions.

The sessions are very interactive and engaging, so come prepared to join in and have some fun!

Course Content

Our courses follow a communicative approach which will give you the skills to communicate effectively in Italian in everyday situations. Classroom activities in pairs and groups will help you acquire speaking and listening skills and the basic rules of pronunciation, and you will also develop your reading and writing skills. There will also be an introduction to simple grammar (articles, masculine and feminine, singular and plural, present tense of the most used verbs).

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

- Read short texts independently with good pronunciation and intonation
- Conjugate regular verbs and some irregular verbs in the present tense
- Make requests and find out information in a variety of contexts
- Develop your confidence in speaking (in pair and group activities)
- Develop your intercultural awareness by comparing traditions

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

This is a course for complete beginners with no previous knowledge of the language.

First Class Requirements

Please bring a pen and paper or your electronic device if preferred.

Attendance Requirements

Regular attendance is advisable to develop language skills and ensure maximum progress.

Assessment Methods

Learners will discuss their goals with the tutor who will assess their progress during the course through in-class observation and a range of activities. You will record and reflect on your progress in your Personal Learning Plan (PLP).

Further to completing this course you can progress to Beginners Stage 2.
