This course will be delivered online.
This course aims to develop knowledge, understanding and competence in a range of different IT areas. This course is ideal for those who work with IT within their current job role and for those who are familiar with using a computer and the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date. You must have Level 1 English skills (e.g. Functional Skills English). If you are not able to produce evidence of an English qualification, you will be required to take a short assessment. To ensure this course and style of learning is suitable for you, we will also require you to complete a short course application and attend a brief [online] interview. You must have access to the necessary I.T equipment and internet service to study on this course. A PC, laptop or tablet is recommended.
This course will commence from 1st August 2024
Course Content
This course will encourage thinking about how IT can be used in different ways with an introduction to specific tools that will aid utilising IT in everyday life. Consider the best software and tools for specific tasks with the view of improving productivity and efficiency.
Learn about the importance of IT security; from unwanted emails and spam, to computer viruses and firewalls.
Through the course, presentation and spreadsheet software will be introduced and an assessment carried out on the understanding and use of these.
You can study at your own pace but must stick to the assessment schedule provided on the platform.
Entry Requirements
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.
You will be learning online but should be adequately prepared to create word processed documents to complete your assignments.
Access to a computer is required and the Microsoft Office suite to complete the course. If you do not have this the college provides all students access to a student 365 license.
Assessment Methods
You will use our learning platform to complete a portfolio of units. Competency elements will be assessed by viewing datafiles or screenshots of completed work.
Additional Information
On successful completion of this course you could consider Level 3 IT qualifications such as Access to Higher Education Diplomas - Digital Technologies (online), or vocational Level 3 Certificates in Cybersecurity or Coding Practices. Contact rbs@Rhacc.ac.uk to find out more.
