This class is designed for students who have experience in the practice of drawing and painting from life and who want to push their skills a little further. The course is structured to cover a full range of approaches to life drawing and painting. It is designed to broaden the students approach to the way the figure is perceived with an appreciation of tone, form and colour, relating to the figure and its background.

Please note on this course you will be drawing or painting from a nude model.

The tutor Francis Bowyer is a Past President and Member of the Royal Watercolour Society and Member of the New English Art Club. He is an award winning artist and his work is held in public and private collections .In 2013 he visited Afghanistan as a War Artist. Course Content

The course is structured to cover 3 or 4 week painting poses from the life figure. Drawing will be encouraged as well as the use of a sketchbook. There will be one to one teaching, group discussion and demonstration from time to time. You will study work by renowned artists and use their work to influence course work. You will be encouraged to identify your individual learning needs with the advice of the tutor.

In keeping with professional working practice, the last 15 minutes of each session will be used to clean up your work space.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

Suitable for students who have an understanding of working from the figure, although this is not essential if you have experience of drawing and painting. This course would not be suitable for a beginner.

First Class Requirements

Drawing materials. A variety of papers available for purchase.

Attendance Requirements

Regular attendance is encouraged

Assessment Methods

Your work will be assessed on a regular basis, culminating in being part of the art department exhibition at the end of the academic year.

Further Study Options

Possible full time art education or exhibiting in art exhibitions.

Additional Information

All learners will receive a health and safety induction in alignment with their course. Learners are advised to wear closed toe shoes and to dress appropriately.
