New Directions - Re-starting My Career

Have circumstances left you unemployed and you feel a need to choose a new direction/industry? Would you like to explore other careers you could engage with, including the green sector? Are you planning to go back to paid work after some time? Are you wondering if volunteering might be the next step for you? Are you looking for a new challenge in your career?

To start over can seem daunting, and it might be difficult to know where to begin. Being in control of a career, new start, or shift in role is perfectly possible, but you need to plan carefully and be prepared to put in time and effort. This course offers you the support and toolkit to make this possible. This course is one day a week, over 6 weeks.

Course Content

- Managing change & stress and exploring new careers

- How can volunteering can help us in our next steps

- Recognising our strengths and defining our next steps

- CV writing theory and practice

- Interview techniques theory and practice

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

First Class Requirements

You are expected to have an A4 writing pad, a ring-binder or folders as well as pencils, a rubber, a ruler and a highlighter pen.

Attendance Requirements

To successfully complete this course, you must commit to 100% attendance and punctuality.

Assessment Methods

Each unit will be assessed with a variety of assessment methods. At the end of the course a self-assessment evaluation will be completed. Feedback from peers and facilitator will help to achieve the aims of this course, in a constructive and supportive environment.
