Photography for Beginners (Hillcroft Campus, Surbiton)

This course will be delivered onsite at our Hillcroft campus. You do not need your own DSL to study this course, a camera phone or compact camera is fine.

Over a duration of this course you will become increasingly familiar with the settings on your camera equipment.

Our course is designed to give you a better understanding of what your camera can do and how to do it. The introduction covers the basic controls, making you more confident with the camera, while also illustrating and putting into practice what effect these controls have on the photograph.

This course is geared towards getting you more comfortable and confident with the apparatus you have, and ultimately taking more satisfying and considered photographs.

Course Content

This basic course will teach you about the controls on your camera, what they do and how to set them. Each week a new technique or approach will be explored with practical guidance, from turning the camera on, to printing the final photograph.

More specifically, the course will cover the basic principles of how photography works, the digital functions on your camera and how they can be used to improve your photography. You will explore various focusing options, how to compose images effectively and the role of light. You will be reviewing your photographs on your camera, transferring them to a computer, resizing and cropping to enhance the picture before getting them ready to print.

Depending on your own technology, you will learn how to: -

You will learn to understand Aperture, ISO and Exposure
You will learn how to shoot landscapes effectively
You will learn how to work with lines and patterns in photography
You will practice how to capture and freeze movement with shutter speed
You will learn how to set up and improve portraits

We want to keep you safe while you are at RHACC and as such all on-site classes will have additional hygiene procedures in place, as per government guidelines. Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

No photography experience required. The ability to use a computer would be an advantage.

You will be given verbal feedback during the sessions on how to improve your technique and imagery.

Additional Information

This specialist course has been identified to run with fewer numbers due to either the student demand for the course and subject area or the need for increased one to one tuition. This course will be able to run with 8 learners and will have a maximum of 14 in the class.
