Why Study This Course?
As your study of the language progresses from Beginners Stage 1 you will continue to develop your ability to speak, read, write and listen to Russian. We will continue to explore the grammatical structures of the language, including the use of the genitive case with numbers; the animate accusative; the instrumental case; the past and future tenses.
Our courses follow a communicative approach which will give you the skills to communicate effectively in Russian in everyday situations, such as telling the time, buying things in shops, ordering food in a restaurant, and making enquiries about excursions. Classroom activities in pairs and groups will help you acquire speaking and listening skills and the basic rules of pronunciation, and you will also develop your reading and writing skills. You will start building on your grammar and sentence structure.
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
Count items using the genitive singular or genitive plural;
Use the animate accusative;
Differentiate between long and short form adjectives;
Express agreement or disagreement;
Use formal and informal forms of address (e.g. to employers or friends).
Completion of Beginners Stage 1 or equivalent (3 hours of study). This course is suitable if you have studied Russian for a short time in the past and would like to revisit the basics of the language.
Learners will discuss their goals with the tutor who will assess their progress during the course through in-class observation and a range of activities. You will record and reflect on your progress in your Personal Learning Plan (PLP).
In your first lesson, the tutor will give you details of the textbook you will require.
Please note that tutors may occasionally be changed at short notice. While teaching styles may vary, we ensure consistent quality across all of our courses. For this reason, a change of tutor does not qualify for a refund.
