Taster - Ceramics - An Introduction to Making

This course is designed for learners who are complete beginners or who have very limited experience of working with clay. Starting with fundamental techniques and progressing skills throughout the course, there will be an emphasis on hand-building.

Course Content

Understand the differences between clay
Understand basic ceramic technical language
How to use pottery tools
How to make a bowl using slab moulding technique.
How to make vases using the extruder or using pinch pot technique
How to slab build an object inspired by architecture or the home
How to glaze your objects.
You will develop an awareness of historical and contemporary approaches in ceramics through learning about artists

You will be guided by the tutor to make 3 finished items.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

This short course is suitable for those who have no knowledge of clay making and wish to acquire basic knowledge of making using hand-building techniques.

First Class Requirements

First Class Requirements
Apron, sketchbook, any tools

You will be required to pay for your clay by weight. The price includes glazes and firing. There are additional charges for special firings.

Attendance Requirements

Regular attendance is required.
