Working in Catering

This course is for SEND learners only

Why Study This Course?

Working in Catering is an entry-level vocational three-day programme designed for learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) who are interested in developing practical skills for the Catering industry. Delivered over three full days (9:30am–3:30pm), the course provides a supportive, hands-on learning environment where learners develop confidence and practical experience in food preparation, kitchen routines, customer service, cleaning, and teamwork.
Learners will take part in practical catering activities while also developing English, Maths, and Digital skills linked to real-life catering and workplace tasks. The course focuses on building confidence, communication, independence, and employability skills needed for future progression into further learning, work experience, volunteering, or employment within the Catering industry.
As part of the programme, learners will prepare for the Level 1 Award in Food Safety (RQF), with the opportunity to take the qualification during the course. An RQF qualification is a nationally recognised qualification that helps learners develop knowledge and understanding of food hygiene, safe working practices, and health and safety within catering environments.
