RHACC Tutor Pays Tribute to Late Student with Calligraphy Book

Calligraphy is an art that allows you to add beauty to the simple act of writing. It can provide a great outlet when things feel out of control, forcing you to slow down, focus and breathe – improving your mental health. At RHACC, we run some of the most popular Lettering and Calligraphy courses in the UK and we have some exciting news from the department!

Our calligraphy tutor Veiko Kespersaks, who teaches a range of courses at the Parkshot campus, has published Flourish, a book on Copperplate Calligraphy. He said “None of this would have been possible if it wasn’t for Madeleine Townsend, a former RHACC learner who sadly passed away last year. She inspired and helped me to make this publication possible over the pandemic, I am so grateful.” Flourish gives readers a glimpse into all the projects Veiko has taught and perfected over the years, with easy to follow instructions, ideas and further information on advanced techniques. All of these are incorporated in Vieko’s courses, which are filling up fast.

Vieko said “I had always planned to make a book, but with teaching and commissions, I was too busy, so the pandemic gave me more free time to focus on creating this”. Flourish is lavishly illustrated throughout with photographs, illustrations, and expert examples of fine handwriting to complement the written descriptions.

Veiko is Head of The Calligraphy Studio in London and he has produced a wide range of public and private commissions. Veiko is a Fellow of The Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society and was elected a Fellow of the Society of Scribes and Illuminators in 2007.

You can enrol on our Lettering and Calligraphy courses here. We are currently enrolling for our summer school and autumn 2021 courses and they are open to all abilities.  Learn a new craft with RHACC in 2021.
