Are you curious about Existential therapy and its philosophical roots? This short course introduces you to the core concepts and methods of this approach. You'll gain an overview of Existential philosophy and explore themes that continue to shape therapeutic practices. This course is perfect for those on existing counselling courses, those considering further training, or anyone seeking inspiration in the field.

Course Content

This course covers:
It will provide a brief overview of key Existential thinkers (Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Heidegger, Sartre)
It will explore major themes of concern to Existential philosophers (freedom, responsibility, meaning, alone-ness, death)
It will examine different types of therapy emerging from the Existential philosophical tradition (Dasein-analysis, Logotherapy, American Existential-Humanism, the British School)

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

You must be 19 or over on the start date of the course.
There are no academic entry requirements for this workshop.
If learning takes place online, you will need a PC (with a camera and microphone), laptop, tablet, or smartphone and access to the internet.

Assessment Methods

This course is suitable for all levels, especially trainee or qualified counsellors seeking continuing professional development. Activities include presentations, Q&A, discussions, interactive pair and group work, and a brief practical session. There's no formal assessment, but we encourage active participation in your individual learning plan, group activities, and reflections, drawing from your own experiences. Following this course, you may be interested in our other "Approaches to" courses, or other mental well-being courses. If you are interested in becoming a counsellor, you may be interested in our Introduction to Counselling course which can lead to studying for a qualification through the Level 2 Counselling Skills course.

Additional Information
