With an increasing number of people affected by dementia, understanding the condition is more important than ever. On this Level 3 course, you will learn about different types of dementia, treatments, and holistic care approaches. This course is ideal for healthcare professionals, those considering a career in healthcare, or volunteers working with people affected by dementia. Gain valuable knowledge and skills to make a real difference.
Understanding dementia: Explore an introduction to common types of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease. Study the causes, effects and risk factors of dementia and gain an understanding of the importance of early diagnosis.
Person-centred approaches in dementia care: Understand the importance of person-centred care for individuals with dementia, recognising that each individual's experience is different and exploring how they can be supported.
Communication and interaction in dementia care: Learn about the different ways individuals with dementia may communicate, the factors that influence communication, and how effective communication supports care.
Supporting positive interaction and activity in dementia care: Understand the range and benefits of positive interactions, the importance of promoting identity and inclusion, and how individuals with dementia can engage in meaningful activities.
Equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care: Learn the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion within dementia care, including how to recognise and challenge discrimination.
Supporting individuals with dementia to exercise choice and rights: Understand how to uphold the rights of individuals with dementia and support them in making decisions, involving carers and others where appropriate.
Medication and well-being in dementia care: Learn about common medications used in dementia care and the steps to take in response to side effects or adverse reactions.
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

You will have Level 2 English skills (e.g. GCSE; Functional Skills English). If you are not able to produce evidence of an English qualification, you will be required to take a short assessment.
To ensure this course and style of learning is suitable for you, we will also require you to complete a short course application form and attend a brief [online] interview.
You must have access to the necessary I.T equipment and internet service to study on this course. A PC, laptop or tablet is recommended.
This course is assessed through assignments submitted via the learning platform. You will receive feedback from your assigned assessor through the platform. Successful completion of this course can lead to further studies in healthcare or enhanced career opportunities in the care sector.
