This course will prepare you for the full GCSE English qualification. You'll become familiar with the content, level, and expectations. Develop a thorough understanding of the English language, including grammar, sentence structure, and punctuation
Learn how to effectively read and comprehend English language texts
Develop writing skills for academic purposes, including essay writing and effective communication in written form
Understand the requirements and structure of the Edexcel English exam
Develop listening and speaking skills to effectively communicate in English
Avoid common mistakes in English writing and improve overall writing quality
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.
You need to complete an English initial assessment to check your level.
The entry requirement for the GCSE English course initial assessment is Level 2 English.
After this course, you can go on to take the GCSE qualification course if your teachers thinks you are ready for the exam.
We will also provide support with applying to university and careers guidance to help you decide on your options following the completion of the programme.
Your English skills will be assessed and developed through a folder of work and the use of a Personal Learning Plan (PLP). Your work will be gathered and marked by your tutor. If you successfully complete this course, you can then progress onto the full GCSE English qualification in November. This course is the preliminary course to go on to a full GCSE English qualification. It is designed for anyone who already has a good level of everyday English. The course will be an introduction to the GCSE English course. You will study and be assessed on many of the topics/skills which you will need on the GCSE English course.
