You'll refine your technique, expand your repertoire, and gain the confidence to tackle more challenging pieces. This course covers:
Scales: C, G, D and F majors (3 Octaves and arpeggios in the same keys). Study Piece, Minuet in G by Edward Boamah. Aural Awareness.
Chromatic Scales from the white keys only. 3 Octaves.
Concentration of articulation of notes in scales with demonstration. Scales of D, A and E introduced.
Concentration on Speed by demonstration. This will be applicable to chromatic scales and arpeggios. Looking at the form and expression of the Minuet in G. Aural awareness introduced.
Contrary motion in E major taught. Dynamics of Minuet in G continued. Few bars of Bach Prelude in C introduced. Aural awareness.
Prelude in C by Bach.
Introducing the contrary motion of A. Chromatic scale from the black keys. Arpeggios on D and A majors. Bach's prelude in C - phrasing of this piece. Aural awareness.
Introducing Contrary chromatic on D. Arpeggio on E major. Scales of A and D minor introduced. Study of the sustaining pedal, to be applied to Minuet in G and Bach's Prelude in C.
Introducing the scale of B flat and E flat majors. Contrary motion of A major to be taught. Performance strategy in playing Bach's Prelude in C. Concentration of dynamics and pedal control. (i.e. by demonstration)
Emphases on chromatic scales and the scales of B flat and E flat majors. Contrary motion of E flat majort. Introducing the scale of G minor. Aural awareness/ Music Appreciation. Minuet in G and Bach Prelude performed.
Students encouraged in the final lesson to perform in front of other students without any compulsion to do so.
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.
Completion of Piano - Stage 2 or equivalent experience.
Your progress will be assessed through ongoing observation and feedback from your tutor. You'll also have the opportunity to self-assess your progress against your Personal Learning Plan. After completing this course, you can progress to Piano - Stage 4 to continue developing your skills.
