Want to take your ceramics throwing skills to the next level? This course gives you dedicated time each week to focus on your own projects. An experienced potter will guide you, offering support and inspiration. Whether you have your own ideas or want to explore new techniques, this course is perfect for refining your skills in a creative environment. Please note there is an additional cost of approx. £50 - £100 for materials on this course.
This course covers:
Developing and consolidating your existing throwing skills.
Learning how to repeat throw and make sets of bowls or mugs.
Learning how to turn and decorate a lid that fits a container.
Learning how to make oval shaped containers by cutting and reforming a bowl from the wheel head.
Learning how to add coils to a small bowl making it into a larger bowl without centering a large amount of clay.
Expanding on decorating techniques and experimenting with different glazes.
Preparing and reclaiming your material.
Throwing bowls.
Turning and making foot rings.
Throwing cylinders that do not require turning.
Developing your own style by altering basic forms.
Glazing using oxides to enhance surface.
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

You need some prior knowledge of ceramics and be comfortable working on the potter's wheel.
Please attend the first lesson on time as it will cover basic information.
Please bring an apron, sketchbook, and pen to the first class.
You may bring your own tools, but equipment will be provided if needed.

On the first day of the course, the tutor will inform you of any materials that may be required for this course.
To successfully complete this course, you must commit to aim for 100% attendance and punctuality.
We'll track your progress through Personal Learning Plans (PLPs) and regular discussions with your tutor. This includes reviewing your notes and the tutor's feedback to gauge your development throughout the course.

No food or drink is allowed in the studio; a nearby hub area is available for snacks and drinks. You'll need to pay for materials used from the college and for firing. Details will be provided in the first class. You can bring your own materials, but on-site storage is limited to college-purchased items. Please allow 15 minutes at the end of each class to tidy up.
