Looking to broaden your kilnforming glass skills and develop a unique artistic style? This masterclass is designed for you. Through a workshop approach and expert guidance, you'll explore your own ideas and techniques. Research into art and design will inspire you and deepen your understanding of your work within a contemporary and historical context. This course will help you refine your skills and find your artistic voice in glass.

Course Content

This course covers:
Structured workshop to explore new ways of thinking and working with tutor guidance
Exploring how new techniques and ideas could become integrated into your individual practice
Demonstrations of a range of techniques including core casting, slumping, fusing, pate de verre
Cold working methods such as engraving, sandblasting, cutting, grinding and polishing
Assembly techniques such as UV bonding

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

Some previous experience in kilnformed glass is essential.

First Class Requirements

It would be helpful to bring a sketch book, technical notebook, pens and pencils, apron or overalls, personal modelling tools such as, spatulas, wax modelling tools, bench scraper, craft knife, metal or rubber “kidney”, glass cutter, dust mask or you can buy a mask and basic tools from the college.

Your personal tool kit will depend very much on the type of work you develop and you will evolve your own unique set of tools as you progress on the course.

Assessment Methods

This course is non-certificated, so there are no formal assessments. You will present your work and research for evaluation and critical discussion with tutors and peers.

Further Study Options

This course may serve as an opportunity to develop practical work in conjunction with concept and ideas development that would be good preparation for further advanced study at post-graduate level. It may be also be seen as a valuable opportunity to gain more tutored studio time as an add-on to existing study or an ongoing studio practice.

Additional Information

Please note there is an additional cost of approx. £50 - £100 for materials on this course.
No food or drink is allowed in the studio; a hub area nearby is available for snacks and drinks.
Please allow 15 minutes at the end of the class to tidy up after yourself and leave the room ready for the next class.
