
Do you want to gain a Functional Skills Level 2 English qualification? Do you need to test your abilities before attempting the full qualification? This Getting Ready for Functional Skills English course is designed to prepare you. This preliminary course will familiarise you with the content, level, and expectations of the full qualification. You will need to complete and pass an initial assessment before starting this course.
This course covers:
Understand the main points of what you read
Read and understand different types of text and find information from them
Read for different purposes (e.g. find detail, get the main idea, decide if it’s worth reading)
Plan, draft and organise writing, so that it is in a sensible order
Write for different purposes and different readers and use correct basic grammar
Check work for accuracy, including spelling
Take an effective part in formal and informal discussions
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.
You need to complete an English initial assessment to check your level.
The entry requirement for this course is Level 1 Functional Skills English.
You may need to purchase a textbook for the course along with some basic stationery. We will give you details of this at the interview, but it will be a modest cost. For any learners who will struggle to pay for equipment, there is a hardship fund available.
To successfully complete this course, you must commit to 100% attendance and punctuality.
Your English skills will be assessed and developed through a folder of work and the use of a PLP (Personal Learning Plan). Your work will be gathered and marked by your tutor. If you successfully complete this course, you can then progress onto the full qualification. Functional Skills English courses use real-life examples and situations. They cover essential English skills including reading, writing, and speaking. These skills will help you develop the English needed for work and day-to-day life.
If you successfully complete this course, you can then progress onto the full qualification in November.
