Dyslexia is one of the most common learning difficulties in the UK with around 10% of the population affected and 4% experiencing severe dyslexia. This short course is designed to increase awareness of Dyslexia and is suitable for parents, carers, employers and educators and those who wish to learn more for personal development.
This course is delivered by tutors who have expertise and experience in dyslexia as a condition and in supporting and working with those with dyslexia.
This short course will cover: A definition of dyslexia and related conditions such as dyscalculia The diagnostic approach Challenges faced by those with dyslexia in education Challenges faced by those with dyslexia in the workplace Dyslexia as a 'super power' Support strategies for dyslexia
Course delivery (on site) will consist of a range of teaching and learning methods and will include tutor demonstration, pair/group work, learner presentations and group discussions.
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, you should have a good command of English. Ideally, you would be taking the course as: a parent, guardian or carer of children and young people an educator in schools, colleges or the workplace an employer a personal development opportunity
Please come equipped to make notes during the session - ipad, tablet or pen and paper.
The session's interactive and learner-centred activities will enable the tutor to assess your progress and provide individual learning support and feedback as appropriate. In addition to the course aims, you will set yourself 1 or 2 personal learning aims and review your progress at the end of the workshop.
Following completion of the course, you may consider undertaking a more formal qualification such as the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties.
