You'll focus on practical writing exercises to discover your unique voice and style. Whether you're a complete beginner or have some experience, this course will help you develop your skills and build confidence in your writing.
This course covers:
The basic structure of a story
Building a character
Importance of conflict and resolution
Importance of point of view
Difference between showing and telling
Creating a setting
Developing style and tone
The genres: short stories, novels, plays, TV series, poems
How to get published
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.
A reasonable level of spoken and written English.
No previous creative writing experience is necessary.
Students are advised to bring pens, paper and a folder (for storing work, notes and handouts). Laptops, tablet computers and recording devices e.g. dictaphones are optional but welcome.
Regular attendance required.
Your progress will be assessed through your participation in class and the completion of writing assignments. After this course, you could progress to an intermediate level creative writing course or focus on finishing and submitting your coursework to editors for publication.
