Course Content

This course covers:
Study Skills: Including Report Writing, Writing Standard English, Sourcing and Reading Information, Exam Skills, Developing Reflective Practice, Arithmetic Skills for Health Studies
Chemistry: Patterns in Chemistry, Biological Molecules and Enzymes, Introduction to Nutrition
Health Care: The Role of the Health or Social Care Professional, Interpersonal Communication in a Health or Social Care Setting
Biology: Cells, Human Tissues and Systems, Blood, The Cardiovascular System, The Reproductive System, The Endocrine System, The Musculo-skeletal System, Sports Injuries

Entry Requirements

For your application to be considered you must be 18 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date

Minimum of GCSE English Language grade C/4 or Functional Skills English Level 2
GCSE Maths grade C/4 or Functional Skills Maths Level 2
IELTS 6.5 as a minimum plus a Maths qualification equivalent to GCSE Maths (NARIC equivalency)
If you wish to study midwifery or physiotherapy, relevant work or voluntary experience in the health care sector is also recommended.

First Class Requirements

You should bring along an A4 writing pad as well as a selection of pens. We recommend that you also have a scientific calculator. You need to bring these resources with you to each session unless directed by the tutor.

Attendance Requirements

To successfully complete this course, you must commit to 100% attendance and punctuality.

Assessment Methods

Your assessment is continuous throughout the year. You will be assessed by essays, written reports, exams, presentations and portfolio. After completing this course, you may progress on to Higher Education degree courses including physiotherapy, nutrition, occupational therapy, sports science, sports rehabilitation, podiatry, physiology and midwifery.

Additional Information

This is an intensive course, so be prepared to dedicate time to your studies. You should expect to do a minimum average of 15 hours of homework per week. Please bring an A4 writing pad, pens, and a scientific calculator to each session.
