Course Content

Course Content
Observing and discussing effective approaches to design by referring to lino plates, lino prints and images thereof.
A methodical approach is used to guide you through the stages of the linocutting and printing process, initially through the creating of a black and white print and then a multi-coloured print.
You will not only learn about the effects which can be created from various mark-making - but which linocutting tools to use for what purpose.
You will learn about printmaking inks - and have a choice between using water based and intaglio. You will mix inks to achieve certain colours and become familiar with different ink rollers - being able to make your own personal choices.
To be able to set up each printing space to suit which part of the printing process you are at - is important. A clean printing setup allows for a successful print - and knowing how to set up and use the printmaking studio will be demonstrated and supported.
You will use the Columbian print to make your prints. Different strategies for lining up your paper on the plate correctly - especially important for multi-layered prints of more than one colour - will be demonstrated - and you will have guidance with this.
A group feeling is encouraged - whereby learners move onto the next stage as part of a group - so as to be able to observe and learn from others as well.
Personal creativity is encouraged and individual designs and approaches to cutting, inking and printing are an important part of the discussions with your tutor.
