Do you have some ceramics experience and want to take your skills to the next level? This intermediate course is designed for you! You'll refine your hand building and throwing techniques, and explore a wide range of decorative methods. This course will help you elevate your ceramic creations and express your unique artistic vision. Please note there is an additional cost of approximately £50 - £100 for materials on this course.
Course Content
This course covers:
Hand Building Techniques: Pinch pots, coiling, hard and soft slab techniques, and slumping in moulds.
Throwing Techniques: Intermediate-level throwing skills, including how to repeat throw a set of mugs or bowls.
Decorative Techniques: Experiment with slip work, slip trailing, resist techniques, scraffito, incising, inlaying, and sprigging.
Glazing: Practice and refine your glaze work, understanding different types of clay and their appropriate uses.
Sketchbook Development: Guidance on keeping a sketchbook to enhance your making and design skills.
Entry Requirements
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.
This course is for those who have completed some beginner courses and have some experience in ceramics.
First Class Requirements
Please attend and be on time for the first lesson as it will cover a lot of basic information. Please also bring an apron, sketchbook and pen. You may have already got some tools to bring along too. If not, this equipment will be provided.
On the first day of the course, the tutor will inform you of any materials that may be required for this course.
Attendance Requirements
To successfully complete this course, you must commit to aim for 100% attendance and punctuality.
Assessment Methods
Your progress will be assessed using Personal Learning Plans (PLPs) and regular discussions with your tutor. This includes tracking your own practice through written notes and tutor feedback, gauging your progression and personal development throughout the course.
Additional Information
No food or drink is allowed in the studio; a hub area nearby is available for snacks and drinks.
You will be required to pay for materials that you use from the college and for your firing. Details will be given out at the first class, and prices will be dependent on materials used and size of work. You may also bring in your own glass, clay, or wax, etc., should you wish to; however, there is no storage on site for materials unless they are purchased from the college.
Please allow 15 minutes at the end of the class to tidy up after yourself and leave the room ready for the next class.
