Want to learn the art of pottery throwing? This fun, practical beginner's course will give you a solid understanding of throwing on the wheel. Over five days, you'll create your own set of mugs and/or bowls. This concentrated practice, guided by a professional thrower with over 10 years of teaching experience, will help you master this rewarding technique. Plus, a glazing session later in the term lets you return and finish your work. This course is perfect for beginners wanting to learn a new skill.
Course Content
This course covers:
Preparing the clay
Centering
Throwing on the wheel
Turning
Making handles and footrings
Entry Requirements
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.
Open to all
No previous knowledge required
Some clay experience is useful but not essential
First Class Requirements
Apron, towel, notebook and any ceramics tools you have already.
Attendance Requirements
Regular attendance will help you gain maximum benefit from the course.
Assessment Methods
Assessment will be informal and on-going throughout the week. Your progress will be discussed with your tutor regularly, both individually and in a group at the start of each day.

You can enrol directly online or in person at reception. Please enrol early for courses to avoid disappointment.
Additional Information
No food or drink is allowed in the studio; a hub area nearby is available for snacks and drinks. Tools are supplied for this short course. You will be required to pay for materials that you use from the college and for your firing. Details will be given out at the first class, and prices will depend on materials used and size of work. You may also bring in your own glass, clay, or wax etc. should you wish to; however, there is no storage on site for materials unless they are purchased from the college.
Please allow 15 minutes at the end of the class to tidy up after yourself and leave the room ready for the next class. Please note there is an additional cost of approximately £50 - £100 for materials on this course.
