On this course you will sew a dress from a pattern using fine or luxury fabric such as silk. You ll learn how to cut, sew and work neatly. Suitable for those with sewing experience.
Course Content
With individual use of a sewing machine, the tutor will guide you through sewing techniques, to include:
Overview of clothes making and sewing equipment
Introduction to a domestic sewing machine
Introduction to a domestic over locker
Familiarisation with silk, fine and luxury fabric
How to cut out and use a dress pattern. You will be making a simple summer dress or party wear
How to sew basic seams for silk, fine and luxury fabric
The perfect interfacing
How to sew fastenings
How to sew neatly with fine fabric
How to sew a rolled hem
By the end of the course you will have an understanding of
Creating a simple summer dress from a commercial pattern
Cutting out the chosen fabric
Understanding grain lines
Inserting fastenings (optional)
Machining a hem
Pressing the garment
Simple techniques & tips for a glamorous look

Entry Requirements
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.
The course is suitable for those with sewing experience
First Class Requirements
You will need to buy fabric for your specific project
Guidance will be given in week one for purchasing the correct materials & equipment
