You'll learn to combine mixed media techniques and stretch your idea of what collage can achieve. This course is perfect for anyone eager to experiment, regardless of prior art experience. You'll gain confidence in your artistic abilities and learn to express yourself through collage.
Course Content
This course covers:
Collage Creation: Understanding different ways collages can be created.
Material Collection: Developing an eye for collecting papers, materials, and textures.
Paper Techniques: Learning the art of experimenting with torn and cut paper.
Textured Papers: Painting your own textures on paper for use in your collage.
Recycled Objects: Producing collage using a variety of found or recycled objects.
Expression and Representation: Producing both expressionistic and representational collages using elements from newspapers, photography, and magazines.
Artist Exploration: Learning about other collage artists' work and their techniques.
Composition and Symbolism: Learning how to use/consider basic composition, themes, and symbolism.
Material Library: Learning how to establish a library of collage materials from everyday objects.
Colour and Texture: Learning how to explore and experiment using a wide range of colour, texture, and tone within your work.
Feedback Sessions: Taking part in supportive feedback sessions on your peers' work.
Project Development: Taking part in a group discussion to help develop your class work into more extensive projects beyond the course.
Entry Requirements
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

Some prior knowledge of art materials, tools & techniques is required to make this a more beneficial experience.
First Class Requirements
Collect collage materials!
Coloured paper (bought or found at home): wallpaper, wrapping paper, brown paper, paper bags... or hand paint your own sheets of paper with gouache or acrylics.
Newspapers and magazines: for figurative images or other images as well as printed colour.
Found papers and objects: Don t forget sometimes the best scraps are found on the road or at home and they are the cheapest! bus tickets, sweet wrappers, paper bags, wood, twigs, driftwood, stones, sand, sponges, plastic.....These are only ideas....look out for much much more....what you like.....

Other materials you ll need: You might want to look into different glues (spray glue designers use and metal or plastic glue. We only have PVA in class!). Scissors, cutters, stanley knife.
For the first session you will need bring along:

Attendance Requirements
To make maximum progress, it is advisable you attend all classes.
Regular attendance is beneficial.
Assessment Methods
Each session will conclude with informal, supportive group critiques, giving you the opportunity to share your work and receive constructive feedback. Throughout the course, your tutor will provide individual verbal feedback as you work on projects and participate in discussions.
