The qualification aims to enable learners with limited existing digital skills to develop the to safely access opportunities presented online to improve their lives. Learners will learn how to develop their practical skills through step-by-step confidence building learning experiences that will act as a springboard to further learning and raised aspirations.
This course also prepares for progress to the Level 1 qualification (OCNLR Essential Digital Skills Qualification Level 1) which will give you the IT skills needed to move into administration, office or secretarial work.
Course Content
The course covers the following modules:
Take steps to keep safe online
Use computers and digital devices (configure, apply settings)
Use online services.
Buy securely online.
Manage and store information.
Find and evaluate information online.
Create and edit documents.
Use digital media
Communicate and share information using digital means.
Be aware of online risks and threats
Identify and solve technical problems
Be aware of digital wellbeing
The methods of teaching are:
Classroom based with work related material
Group work and Pair work
One to One support and careers advice

Class assignments
Entry Requirements
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date and have IT skills below Entry level 3 (This is assessed via an online assessment) and at English must be at Entry Level 3 (evidenced) or above.
You should already be able to:
?? Turn on a device
?? Use a mouse, keyboard for a computer or touch screen on a smartphone or tablet
?? Be able to connect to the internet and open a browser
?? Be able to open and access an application on a device.
You will also need to have enough English (at a minimum of entry 3 equivalent) to be able to:
?? Understand instructions with some technical vocabulary
?? Communicate with the tutor and participate in classroom discussions
?? Use a keyboard and a mouse confidently.
You may have already completed a basic course such as computers for beginners or improvers or have some previous experience of Office software. There will be an interview to ensure that the course will meet your needs.
Attendance Requirements
As this is a qualification based course you need to have 1% attendance and must attend all controlled assessments. Developing IT skills is an ongoing process and the exercises are built upon your progress week by week.
Assessment Methods
You will develop your skills throughout the course and carry out practical exercises to demonstrate these. This course is assessed through 5 separate controlled assessments which take place throughout the course. These are then marked internally by the centre and then externally moderated.
