Are you ready to take your English skills to the next level? This Advanced General English course is designed for confident English users like you. You'll refine your grammar, expand your vocabulary, and improve your reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. This course will help you communicate effectively in a variety of situations and build a strong foundation for further academic or professional pursuits. It's also a great stepping stone if you're considering IELTS or Cambridge Advanced exams.

Course Content

This course covers:
Advanced Grammar: Practice of all main grammar areas at an advanced level (e.g. tenses, reported speech, relative clauses).
Vocabulary Development: Learning vocabulary through various topics (e.g. environment, crime, work, the news).
Reading and Listening Skills: Using a wide range of text types and tasks for comprehension and information retrieval.
Writing Skills: Planning and organising different types of writing, from essays to articles to formal letters.
Speaking Practice: Engaging in speaking practice on a range of topics to reinforce grammar and vocabulary.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

Attend an Advice and Guidance session to assess your English level.
Be a good user of English (a high level ESOL L2) or have an overall band grade of 6 in IELTS.
Generally, have an effective command of the language and be confident in speaking, listening, reading and writing in English.
Be able to handle complex language well in both familiar and unfamiliar situations and understand detailed reasoning.

To successfully complete this course, you must commit to 100% attendance and punctuality.

We will also provide support with applying to university and careers guidance to help you decide on your options following the completion of the programme.

Assessment Methods

This course isn't exam-based. We'll assess your progress through a portfolio of work and an Individual Learning Plan (ILP). Your tutor will mark the work you produce throughout the course, providing feedback and guidance to help you improve. After this course, you could consider preparing for IELTS or Cambridge Advanced exams.
