This course covers:
Reading Skills: Skimming, scanning, detailed reading, reading for pleasure, understanding texts, gathering information, and improving vocabulary, spelling, punctuation and grammar.
Speaking and Listening Skills: Making presentations, having discussions, expressing opinions, and listening for specific information and detail.
Writing Skills: Writing articles, letters, and blogs, improving handwriting, and using correct SPaG.
Entry Requirements
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

You need to complete an English initial assessment to check your level.
The entry requirement for this course is Level 1 Functional Skills English.
Attendance Requirements
To successfully complete this course, you must commit to 100% attendance and punctuality.
Assessment Methods
This course is assessed through a folder of work and an Individual Learning Plan (ILP). Your tutor will mark the work you produce throughout the course. This course prepares you for Functional Skills English Level 2 or GCSE English.
Further Study Options
On successful completion of this course, you can then apply for a place on an L2 Qualification course.
We will also provide support with applying to university and careers guidance to help you decide on your options following the completion of the programme. Good English skills are very important in every job. For example, health care professionals, counselling, childcare and teaching.
