Want to develop your figure painting skills? This course is designed to help you explore colour, mark-making, and composition while working from the figure. You'll gain confidence in your painting abilities through practical exercises and one-to-one support. This course is perfect for those with some prior art experience who want to refine their techniques and develop their artistic voice. You'll learn to work with a range of models and receive personalised guidance to help you grow.

Course Content

This course covers:
Line, Mark, and Volume: Explore the mechanics of figure painting through line, mark, and volume in paint across a range of subjects.
Colour Theory: Develop an understanding of the colour wheel through colour mixing and harnessing relationships between tone and colour, colour contrasts, and colour temperature.
Historical and Contemporary Approaches: Absorb examples of different approaches to painting the figure through supporting references.
Confidence Building: Gain confidence from making and discussing your own work and that of others.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

First Class Requirements

First Class Requirements
Pencil and/or charcoal, sketchbook, rubber, basic range of acrylic paints. Old clothes/apron to protect clothing. You are expected to provide your own art materials. Paper is available to purchase from the college. At the start of the course the tutor will give advice and issue a more detailed materials list.

Attendance Requirements

Regular attendance is recommended.

Assessment Methods

Each session will conclude with informal, supportive group critiques, giving you the opportunity to share your work and receive constructive feedback. Throughout the course, your tutor will provide individual verbal feedback as you work on projects and participate in discussions.
